The sentencing consultant and the attorney form your defense team. You as the client are the focus of this defense team, and as such, have an important role and responsibility in helping the defense team reach the desired outcome.

The client’s relationship with the defense team must be one of complete candor. The defense team must be apprised of all facts or circumstances of the matter at hand, even if the client believes that those facts may be detrimental to his or her case.

RECIPROCAL TRUST, COURTESY AND RESPECT ARE THE HALLMARKS OF THE CLIENT / DEFENSE TEAM RELATIONSHIP.

Closely related to this ideal, the client must willingly allow and facilitate interviews with friends and family as recommended by the consultant. Respect for confidentiality between interview subjects and regarding the offense is always maintained.

The client should maintain contact with the defense team, promptly notify the lawyer of any change in telephone number or address, and respond promptly to a request by the lawyer for information and cooperation.

The client should follow up on any agreed course of action as soon as possible including but not limited to treatment, employment or schooling.

The client and his or her family are also asked to consider assisting in obtaining letters of support from appropriate sources.

The client must realize that the defense team need respect only legitimate objectives of the client and that the defense team will not advocate or propose positions that are unprofessional or contrary to law.
